I wish JWs were "allowed" to feel this way. Bible students aren't even allowed to feel that way. How many times have you heard of a study who has been through multiple books, knows the local friends, attends some meetings, lives a good life, but never takes the dip because of some small hangup on a JW doctrinal issue. I shouldn't even call it a hang up. They have every right to their viewpoints. But not to JWs they don't. If someone disagreess with a JW, then that person is wrong because if the Society says it's true, it's true. A JW is at risk even admitting that they maybe just aren't convinced by the current printed explanation of a doctrine. If you don't believe something JWs teach, then the problem is with YOU, not with them. That is unfair, dishonest, and a big part of why I'm struggling with having to dispense this stuff on a regular basis.

What you have described is polarized thinking. Black and white mentality at its best. All or nothing, good or bad but nothing inbetween.

This is very much a cult control tool, and is used fantastically well by the WBTS to keep everyone in check and by their "them and us" statements to being saved or worthy etc..

but this thinking is one that any person can get into and have trouble getting out of this mindset.

Check out this website and consider how many other forms of "stinkin thinking" are used to control the JW mindset!

Introduce a girl to engineering has been round for years. However there is not only a shortage of female engineers but also men who wish to become engineers. Its just not seen as "sexy"

A lot of it can be blamed on popular culture as the easy way to get rich as the moment seem to be get on a reality tv program!

The other is money. Working as a professional engineer the money is horrendous! Compared to bankers, lawyers and alike, engineering is no where as well paid, unless you are top of the tree and getting there is decades of hard work.

Engineering can be cool, fun and exciting. In the name of my job, I have been diving, climbed down some very famous buildings, fired chickens(dead) at windows and set fire to entire railway vehicles.

On the down side I travel over 100k miles on planes a year in coach, spend up to 7 months of the year in hotels, and spend a lot of time dealing with people who have no concept of what they have asked for, because "they don't do details!".

But to start with engineers need to be rewarded appropriately and in turn help the perception that being an engineer is an attractive prospect.

MLE - This has always been a curious one and when I pointed this out the MIL she said that I was just wrong as I didn't read the bible! (The stock answer when she is stumped and needs an out!)

The Queen of England is a Fidei Denfensor, or denfender of the faith. a title which has been with the english monarchy since 1521 and can be found on any british currency.

As a denfender of the faith, ie Christainity, surely she is not going to object to christ's rule? She defends it!

Yet by JW standards all leaders of all nations are linked with Satan..........

Its a good thing witnesses weren't around 200 years ago in the uk! Statements like that would have seen them up on treason charges!

What the law says...

...is not always what the law actually means.. that idea might sound like doublethink at first, but it's a basic principle of every legal system and there are several very valid reasons for this.. first: a simple, mechanical reading of law can run counter to what the law was actually intended to accomplish.

Without digging out the cases as I am at work, the law certainly in the uk has changed over the years from one of fault to respect of life.

Back in 1880s there was case of 2 children going on to a slag heap in mine and unfortunately comming to a sticky end. The court ruled in favour of the mine due to boys should not have been there.

In the thirties in the case of a man who was injured after he fell in a hole created by the post office which was marked but no barriers again the post office won due to the man not paying attention to the warning sign.

By the fifties in a similar case the man won damages because the post office failed to provide adaquate protection of the hole.

Even today whilst tresspassing is essentially dangerous and can lead to loss of life the company has a duty of care to ensure that tresspassers cannot access the grounds.

Essentially the protection of life is more important than the protection of property.

The change took place becasue we in general have become a more compassionate society and it is widely accepted that we have a duty of care to protect life.

i have such a love/hate, 50/50 relationship with this organization any more, but a letter was read to the elders and ministerial servants that has pushed me to the 30/70 range in favor of hate, if even momentarily.

most of you if not all are aware of the auxilliary pioneering initiative for this upcoming april.

it's no secret that i'm not real fond of pioneering as its unscriptural for one thing.
